By Vincent from www.englishvincent.com
When the number “eight-six” is used as a verb, it means “get rid of “, usually in an informal way.
Joey, can we eighty-six these posters? They have been out of date for long time.
Joey,
All we gotta do is to eighty-six that damned judge!
By Vincent from www.englishvincent.com
I will create a schedule to arrange my dates properly. And no one of them gets to get a hold of the schedule. I will save it very safely.
Firstly, in order to manage multiple boyfriends, I need to get multiple SIM cards.
Ever time when I’m with one of them, I will turn off my cellphone.
I will pick up boyfriends from different social circles. I’m more likely to get caught if they happen to have some mutual friends.
It’s very important to separate by distance. I won’t get too many girlfriends in Hangzhou. that would be too risky. I will take the opportunity to get a girlfriend when I go to another city for business. It’s like setting up franchises.
I will save their names on my cell phone by animal’s names.
The girl who fails to get a good performance evaluation by the end of each year will be dumped. What’s the word again? Yeah…she will be eliminated.
No one of them gets to give me a love bite.
I will give my friends the necessary training. I mean…they should learn to cover for me. So I can maximize the chance of getting caught.
Well. I’ve heard a lot sad stories about girlfriends getting to know each other on the Qzones or those social networking websites. So limiting their access to my qzone, renren.com pages will be done first thing. I will just close my spaces if they file complaints against the authorization thing. If I’ve got the time and patience, I will try to get multiple accounts and specialize the contents on each space for different boyfriends. Sometimes customization ensures customer satisfaction. But if I spend too much time and energy on that, I wouldn’t have the time to set up more franchises.
I might end up in some real awkward situations. So it’s crucial to think of some excuses in advance.. I’m willing to pay for some seminars to improve my lying techniques.
|
Ted: Okay, everybody’s here.
|
Since everybody’s here, let’s get started/let call this meeting to order.
Call a meeting to order
|
|
Linda: Okay! Everybody’s here.
|
|
|
Ted: I know you’re co-leading this, but that doesn’t mean just repeating what I say.
|
Lead the meeting=run/preside over the meeting=
Co-lead the meeting
|
|
Linda: Maybe you’re repeating what I say just before I get a chance to say it.
|
|
|
Ted: Okay, Linda. Why don’t you take the meeting?
|
Why don’t you do sth
|
|
Linda: All right, I will. Ted, bring us up to speed.
好的。 Ted。
|
Bring up to speed: If you bring someone up to speed, you tell them all the necessary information they need about something.
|
|
Ted: All right. First of all, let’s talk about a timeline.
|
Timeline
|
|
Linda: Timeline, people.
|
|
|
Ted: Because some of us who have never run a project before may not realize it can take years to go from an idea to a workable prototype. Am I right, fellas?
|
Run
Run a meeting/project/house/business/company., etc
To go from an idea to a workable prototype
|
|
Lem and Phil: Absolutely.
|
|
|
Ted: See?
|
|
|
Phil: But in this case, the concept was so elegantly simple that we banged one out this morning.
|
Elegant:describes an idea, plan or solution that is clever but simple, and therefore attractive
|
|
Linda: Interesting. So then I would be safe to say… ha.
|
Be safe to say: 。。
|
|
Ted: Please. Your bulb smells like Pumpkin
pie. Mine would have slowed
climate change.
But I guess when the ice caps melt, we will need something that smells good to cover up the stench of all the dead polar bears.
|
Stench?
|
|
Linda: Boys, how long would it take to develop new technology, so that Ted can go screw himself?
|
Go screw/fuck yourself= go to hell, suck my ass, bite me=去死吧你。
|
|
Phil: Mm, we’re not prepared to address…
|
Be prepared to do和be ready to do的意思有相同的时候,不过也有很大的差别。比如在这里,就不能说we’re not ready to address,
因为be prepared to在这里的意思是be intended, be planning to do=打算,有。。
|
|
Lem: Don’t talk. This isn’t about us.
|
This isn’t about us=此时与我们无关,和我们不搞的;
Leave me out of it =别把我扯进来=don’t engage me=I’m not gonna be part of it

By Vincent from www.englishvincent.com

Girl: We have an elderly woman asking for anextension on her of mortgage payment. She’s on a fixed income, and she’s had some
medical problems. There’s gotta be something we can do to help her.
|
Ask for=request for 要求/请求/申请
Medical problems=health problems=
|
|
Man: Well, apparently, we’ve already granted her
two extensions
|
Apparently= used when the real situation is different from what you thought it was。
有点像in fact.
|
|
Man: And, you know, on this type of foreclosure, we seize the trapped equity and the bank makes a sizable amount in fees.
|
Trapped equity
|
|
Girl Girl: We would have to throw her out of her house.
|
|
|
Man: It’s a tough decision. Your call.
|
It’s a tough decision
我们经常还会用到it’s a hard/difficult choice.
Your call: it’s up to you to decide.

By Vincent from www.englishvincent.com
Factional
[uncountable] formal disagreements and arguments between different groups within an organization
jealousy and faction
ᅳfactional adjective factional conflict; factional strife
可以说I can’t stand the factional strife in sales department. They fight too much.
forcing others to do what one wants (without caring about their feelings); domineering 专横的; 跋扈的; 横行霸道的: an overbearing manner 专横的态度.
behaving in an unpleasant way by trying too much to get something or to make someone do something:
a pushy salesman
If you describe someone as opinionated, you mean that they have very strong opinions and refuse to accept that they may be wrong.
Sue is the extrovert in the family; opinionated, talkative and passionate about politics.
Sales people always have strong ideas/opinions about things. They won’t give up until you are convinced. They are very pushy and argumentative.

|
I dropped my driving lessons on Monday. The driving school’s name is 九洲驾校,and it’s located in Dingqiao. My ex-colleague introduced me the driving school when we were having seafood last time. I was a bit drunk, and asked him to recommend a driving school to me. He gave me the cellphone number of his friend who was running a driving school.
|
|
The next day, a driving instructor Li from the school came to give me some documents, and a couple of days later we went to xxxxxxx , where I got a physical (health check) and registered. I found out on Monday that the registration fee was just around 1000. That means Li took me 500 RMB as deposit without telling me about it.
|
|
He drove to pick me up in his car the first day I went to their lesson. We finished at around 5PM. “Rednecks are rednecks”. All the instructors there kept yelling at us all day.
|
|
I took it for granted that he would give me a ride home after we hit the road, but he asked me to get off and take a bus home 5 minutes later. I was really unhappy with his arrangement and attitude. He should’ve told me earlier about this.
|
|
Like a week later, I fixed an appointment with him, and managed to get up early in the next morning, but didn’t show up or call me. I tried to call him for a couple of times but nobody answered until 3 hours later. He told me over the phone that he overslept cause he had a terrible hangover.
|
|
Around 3 weeks later, I got up at 7 am for my third appointment with him and waited there in my bed for like 2 hours before I got his phone call:
“I’m sorry, but I can’t make it there to your place before 10. I overslept. ”
|
|
I was really pissed off, but I didn’t say a word. I thought he was still forgivable. But I had a change of mind late in the afternoon, and decided to drop my driving lessons there. So I called him and he accepted my deregistration right away like he couldn’t wait to get rid of me.
|
|
I called to confirm our deregistration appointment this morning when I was at the bus stop, but he told me I needed to get the stamped approval from another driving school before they accepted my deregistration. I called another driving instructor to find out that wouldn’t be necessary at all. Li just wanted to give me some hard time. I called him again and insisted on keeping the appointment as scheduled.
|
|
It was 11 when I got there. That means I spent like 70 minutes on the bus!! He was really rude when we were going through the transfer formalities and said he was doing me a favor by refunding me 250 RMB, and he already had enough students, and I was too blame for it…shit like that… how shameless was that?!
|
|
I’m so gonna file a complaint against him, but the thing is, he still holds my card for the simulation test. He was supposed to give it to me right after my registration or at least return it to me on Monday morning.
|
|
What did I do to deserve that? I don’t know? How many scumbags am I supposed to meet in 2009?
BTW, my boxing instructor also sucks major ass.

Better Off Ted
By Vincent from www.englishvincent.com
By Vincent from www.englishvincent.com
Shark Tank is a reality show where entrepreneurs make presentations in front of 5 “sharks”. Sharks here mean investors. Sharks will invest in their companies in exchange of certain percent of their company stake if they are convinced their businesses are profitable.
Make A Presentation to Raise Money
DJS: Hello, My name is D.J. Stephen, and this is Sean Conway. Our company is Notehall, we are here asking for a 90K dollars in exchange of 10% of our company (seeking 90k for a 10% stake)
Sean: Notehall’s a website that allows college students to buy and sell class notes and study guides in each the college courses. So, Kevin, Let’s see a huge exam coming upso you naturally are gonna create a study guide to prepare for that exam. You’re gonna load it on Notehall. At the same time, Robert, you have been distracted by a cute blonde girl in class.
Robert: Since I’ve been married for 20 years, that would never happened
Kevin: But he has been stealing my notes for years.
Sean: But you’re gonna go on and Download Kevin’s notes and pay a few dollars doing this. And Kevin could earn a commission on- on the transaction. It’s that simple.
DJS: We launched it at University of Arizona and within 8 months. Our website was being used by 40% students on campus . we pilot launched at Arizona State University and Kansas University and we saw relatively great traffic with basically zero advertising costs. we are planning on launching at 24 universities this upcoming fall. And with your help, and we feel we can go nationwide in just a short period of time making notehall the next dorm room name on the web today
Robert: Is it legal?
Sean: What we are doing is pretty much giving the students a better understanding of the actual course We are teaching those students how to take notes.
Barbara: How do you know the notes are good? Do you get—Kind of get the chance to take a little peek and review before you sign up
Sean: There is actually a preview that’s automatically generated and it shows 30% of the notes
Barbara: what if it’s wrong information
DJS: we offer a 100% money-back guarantee if students aren’t satisfied with the content they buy .
Barbara: That’s better,
DJS: we refund about 25 out of over 5,700 documents that have been uploaded…
Daymond: But a quick question. I want to know… How much have you guys sold in one year
Sean: So we had 5,900 credit card transaction in 8 month, and we have 30K sheer revenue.
Kevin: What’s the price of a typical note downloaded?
So the actual transaction price, our average transaction price is around 4 dollars 90 cents.
Robert: You get a cut of the fee I’m paying?
Sean: So on average, Notehall will withhold 60% of the actual transaction and the Notetaker will earn 40%
Kevin: This is a great idea, and like other great ideas on the internet, they get copied right away. Tell me about your competition.
DJS: we do have other pla<fix>yers in the space, and no one has gained traction yet. That– when I say we saw relatively great traffic in K.U. and S.U. it’s because we gain 1,500 new students
in 6 weeks time. Some of the leading competitors in the space have been there and they don’t have hundreds students.
Barbara: Why they were different. Why weren’t they able to get as many people?
DJS: We’ve discovered a way to get content creators efficiently and effectively, and that’s the lifeblood. Our competitors are just focused on trying to get as many users as they can, and no one’s uploading any valuable content. And if they don’t get the valuable content, students are not gonna continue, you’re not gonna grow virally like we’ve seen so far at K.U. and A.S.U.
By Vincent from www.englishvincent.com
Vincent: We know you are a sales manager, right? Suppose you are making a sale presentation in front of your foreign client now, how would you do the “company profile”?
New student:
Costa is a xxx in networking and communication devices industry. Its annual revenue totaled xxx billion in 2008. We have achieved an 30% yearly growth over the past five years. Our mission is to change the way people study, work and recreate with Costa’s networking and communication solutions.
Vincent: Wow. I’m impressed. Obviously Costa has been doing very well these years. Well, could you tell me some very interesting facts about Costa?
New Student:Can you repeat that?
Vincent: Well, tell me some very interesting things about Costa.
New Student:Costa offers very decent salaries to its employees…uh…uh…
Vincent:…uh…uh… well, it’s enviable , but not a bit interesting … do i need to repeat my questions again?
New Student [totally ignores me]:My colleague bought an apartment with Costa’s credit card five years ago.
Vincent: Are you saying Costa’s credit card has a very high credit line?
New Student:Exactly!
Vincent: What was the credit line?
New Student:About 5 million RMB, he could buy like 10 houses with that credit card, but it was cancelled 3 years ago. I have to use my own credit card now.
Vincent: You should’ve joined Costa earlier, and bought 10 apartments. That would make your filthy rich now. But I suppose there must still be some benefits of being one of Costa’s employees. What if you want to take out a mortgage from the bank now, how much are they likely to offer?
New Student:I’ll need to provide my payslip ( not salary list) . and after checking my payslip, they will offer 50,000 monthly loan to me,
Vincent: that’s a huge amount of money. Another question, where is Costa headquartered?
New Student:xxxxx, xxxxx. There are 5,000 employees in China, and about 2,000 of them will fly to XXXXX for the annual sales meeting.
Vincent: Did you ever get a chance to speak at the meeting?
New Student:Never.
Vincent:You are pathetic. What if you were the top salesman in GCR?
New Student:Definitely. And He (I) will also be interviewed by CEO XXXX XXXXX.
Vincent: Wow…that’s cool. I guess they will hit the strip club afterwards?
New Student:Haha…I don’t know. I never got the chance to find out.

By Vincent from www.englishvincent.com
FYI Only。
|
Our company hired an outside firm to set up a computer system to help us keep track of the progress on major projects. The company gave us a presentation on how the new system worked. Afterwards, the employees got a chance to ask questions.
|
1. outside firm/company
a lot of professionals work in a firm, a lawyer firm, an accounting firm, auditing firm, broking firm, but your don’t really say you work for a trading firm or a manufacturing firm, or a travel/advertising firm.
Ask: when and why would your company hire an outside company or employees?
1) to pay less salary, benefits ( the employees can enjoy life, outside employees do the job)
2) no need to spend a lot in training inexperienced employees.
3) when you don’t have the knowledge and experience to do something.
4) I have to hire the third party to do the accounting and auditing. It’s illegal to conduct the auditing by ourselves.
5) we outsource some low value-added and les profitable works to the outside companies.
6) our company will just take care of the branding, marketing. We don’t do them manufacturing.
7) our company is not legally allowed to hire expatriates. We need to use the outside employment
9) I’m a construction project manager. I can support workers for a whole year when they only work for like 2 months a year. I choose to hire the outside teams and companies to do some workds.
I’ve got a ex-colleague. He keeps track of everything, especially his spending. He records everything he’s bought on an excel file. He even folds his underwear very carefully.
3. how the new system worked=how to make use of and operate the system.
|
|
Cecelia: So, in a nutshell, those are the features of the new system. Any questions?
|
1. in a nutshell=You can use in a nutshell to indicate that you are saying something in a very brief way, using few words.
In a nutshell, don’t buy apartments before spring festival.
2. features=This one has a lot of good features. It’s got a camera phone , a video recorder, instant messaging, and you can download music or ring tones.
This camera’s got way too many features. Somebody tell me how to use it.
|
|
Yuri: Yes, I have a question. From your description, it sounds like the new system may be difficult to use. Can you speak to that?
|
1. from your description= as I learnt from your presentation, or introduction=according to your…
2. be difficult to do. Not “to be done”
he is hard to please.
The car is too expensive to maintain.
This girl is hard to get.
3. speak to=to talk about/answer the questions to a particular topic=can you explain.
Used when asking a questions or when someone is making a presentation.
|
|
Cecelia: I understand your concern, but actually, the system is very simple to use. I mentioned a lot of features that the system has, but the typical employee won’t be using more than two or three on a daily basis. Yes, you had a question?
|
1. I understand your concern=worry= I know what are you worried/saying, but… you are wrong…
Thank for the concern=
2. mention=talk about something briefly.
A typical white-collar workd 9-to-5.
A typical footballers works out for 3 hours a day.
4. on a daily basis=every day.
I send alimony to my ex-wife on a monthly basis.
I have a meeting with the contractor on a weekly basis.
I check my email on a daily basis, and respond to questions quickly.
Be sure to keep track of the progress on a timely basis.
I got paid on an hourly basis.
|
|
Alessandro: Yeah, my biggest concern is that all of the employees in the company will have access to the system. How does this affect my projects that have sensitive information?
|
1) my biggest concern=what worries me the most is…
l my biggest concern is that an increasing number of students will miss class.
l My biggest concern is whether the supplier can meat the deadline.
l My biggest concern is whether we will achieve the monthly sales target.
l My biggest concern is whether I can afford to pay off the balance/pay the mortgage/maintain the car.
Ask: what’s your biggest concern at the moment?
2) will there be any changes, differences, influences on the project if…problem with the…
3) sensitive information=secret information, information that those employees are not supposed to know.
Sensitive topics are something you are not supposed to talk about under certain circumstances.
Don’t say anything about housing price in front of him. He is very sensitive about it.
|
|
Cecelia: That’s a good question. One of the key features of the program is that it allows the project manager to limit access for any of his or her projects. Now, if there are no other questions, thank you all for coming and we look forward to working with you in the future.
|
1) You use it to encourage and compliment the askers, because it’s an important or difficult question, or when you have to disagree with them. sometimes you use it to make some time for yourself to think of an answer.
When you ask: how do you say 登山杖in English. I would say: it’s a good question. It’s spelled ALPEN…I think there is an S following N…I need to look it up in the dictionary…
We have an access authorization policy to control/limit the access.
Ask: does you company have any limit on the employees’ access to internet and data?
Did you have a colleague who got caught copying company documents? What happened to him or her?
Can you copy or send company documents at will?
Did you ever copy your previous employer’s customer list?
2) thank you for coming
you can also say” thank you for your time”,
after an job interview, an sales appointment, a consultation, etc.

Hotel Babylon-
By Vincent from www.englishvincent.com
|
Charlie: It’s just like flushing a toilet on an aeroplane. Vacuum drainage system. Good for the guests, good for the environment. Ah, this very powerful shower can comfortably accommodate two to three people if that’s your thing.
|
First, I’d like you to meet Charlie. He is currently the head receptionist of Hotel Babylon.
At the moment, he is presenting the suite to a very demanding guest Nina.
1.toilet
Flush the toilet:
Unclog the toilet:
2. vacuum drainage system
3. Unclog

I’m going to take a shower. Be right back.

5.accomodate, accommodation.
l This hotel can accommodate up to 600 guest.
l The meeting room is not big enough to accommodate 50 people. Perhaps we should move to the canteen instead.
l Accommodation=Room and board:
l I claimed my travel accommodation expenses last month, but I couldn’t claim my cell phone expense.
6. if it’s your thing: if you like ( to have a group shower), if having a group shower is what you like to do.
|
|
Nina: What do you care what my thing is?
|
|
|
Charlie: Your thing is none of my business, madam.
|
It’s one of your business.
Mind you own business.
|
|
Nina: Are you flirting with me?
|
|
|
Charlie: No, Miss Bailey, I’m trying to suggest…
|
|
|
|
1. insinuate
If you say that someone insinuates that something bad is the case, you mean that they say it in an indirect way.
2. show up 出现,到,来
You didn’t show up at the meeting.
I waited at the airport for 2 hours, but our customer didn’t show up. I guessed his flight was delayed., but it turned out that was not the case.
3. a bar of soap .
|
|
Rebecca: Morning, my apologies for not meeting you at reception. Rebecca Mitchell, General Manager.
|
Rebecca is the General Manager of Hotel Babylon, Rebecca is in her mid-thirties
my apologies for=I’m apologizing for=please accept my apology for…
|
|
Nina: Nina Bailey. I’m looking after the band through their European leg of the tour.
|
Leg: A leg of a long journey is one part of it, usually between two points where you stop.
|
|
Rebecca: I hope that my head receptionist has shown you around one of the best suites in our hotel.
|
1. head
adj: he is the sales department head.
Noun: he is the head of marketing department.
Verb: he headed the technical department.
3. show someone around=tour someone around, so he or she could look around the place.
|
|
Nina: Right down to flushing the john.
|
这里的right的意思是:all the way; completely 从头到尾; 彻底地; 完全地: Go right to the end of the road.
|
|
Rebecca: Then I trust that everything’s to your satisfaction?
|
2. satisfy, satisfication;
you are satisfied with= xx is to your satisfaction.
What are you interested more? Job satisfaction or earning more money?
|
|
Nina: Yes, thank you.
|
|
|
Rebecca: The temperature? The layout?
|
|
|
Nina: It’s all okay.
|
|
|
Rebecca: The view? The curtains?
|
|
|
Charlie: We have the same style of curtains but in blue, if that would be more calming.
|
|
|
Nina: I don’t want you to change anything.
|
|
|
Rebecca: Very well, madam. If you do need us for anything at all…
|
Need someone for/ to do anything.
At all=in any way/respect
|
|
Nina: Oh, actually, there was something.
Rebecca: Madam?
|
|
|
Nina: Maybe I wasn’t looking hard enough, but I can’t remember seeing a welcome basket.
|
Remember doing something:
|
|
Rebecca: Welcome basket?
|
Bernice, how do you say “welcome basket” in Chinese? What guests will be give a welcome basket? Why would the hotel offers welcome baskets? What are usually included?
|
|
Nina: Fruit, pâté, olives. The Burlington were kind enough to provide one free of charge.
|
1.Pâté:
2.Be kind enough to do:这里不是指“好心”,而是“好客”
3. free of charge=for free=to provide a free…
Buy one and get one free
One-for-two coupon.

Order clerk: Can I have your address and the major cross streets, please?

10. 这样的话,再来份开胃菜sampler plate(不知谁知道sampler plate或者sampler platter如何翻译)
Order clerk: Okay, that’s one order of spaghetti and an appetizer sampler plate. You’re still $3 short. Would you like a drink or some dessert?

Sandra: Yes, there is. I’ve tried really hard this year to improve on some of the shortcomings identified in my evaluation last year.
Emil: Hmm, I’m afraid that’s not reflected in this year’s evaluation. Your supervisor noted on the report that you’ve been performing below par for several months now, and your productivity is down, too.
Sandra: I can’t imagine why she would say that. If I haven’t excelled on the new project, I’ve at least pulled my weight. I don’t think she can fault me on that.
Emil: On the contrary, she thinks that you’ve been slacking off and not giving 100 percent.
Sandra: I have had some personal issues, but I didn’t think they had been affecting my work. I guess I’ve let them bring down my performance.
Emil: This was a hard decision, but we’re putting you on probation for the next three months. You’ll have another evaluation at the end of that time. If your performance isn’t up to par by that time, we’ll have to think about letting you go.
Sandra: That won’t happen. I’m going to pull out all the stops to prove myself.
Emil: Good. That’s what I wanted to hear.
(Getting Home Late from School)
ESL Podcast 189 – Getting Home Late from School
ESL Podcast 189 –
Caitlin: I’m sorry, Dad. I lost track of time.
Lost track of time=forget time, not get stuck on the road.
Dad: Lost track of time? We’ve been worried sick about you. You were supposed to come straight home after school.
Be worried sick=be extremely worried… Caitlin: I know, but Janet was showing me something in her locker when a fight broke out in the hallway. The vice principal, Mr. Lopez, finally came out and broke it up.
Break it up=to stand in between the two people who are fighting and separate them.
Dad: That still doesn’t explain why you’re late. And, I don’t want any excuses.
That still doesn’t explain it= this is not a good reason= 。。
Caitlin: Well, one of the guys in the fight was Dan, Janet’s brother. Mr. Lopez called their parents and I waited with her until they got there.
Dad: I never liked Dan. He’s trouble. I don’t want you hanging around with him.
Caitlin: I don’t. I’m friends with Janet, not her brother. I didn’t do anything wrong.
Dad: Oh, really? You missed curfew last week and now you’re late again. Just wait until your mother hears about this. You’re grounded for a week.
Caitlin: Dad! That’s not fair! None of my friend’s parents are as strict as you are.
Dad: That’s enough. I won’t have you talking back to me. Now, go to your room.
Go to your room翻译成“给我。。。
My New Name Card
I’ve quitted my job and will focus on English tuition. As inspired by an interesting design, I designed the new name card on my own. A designer friend of mine helped to finish the graphic work. It looks pretty good.

Kenji: It was parked outside of my apartment building. I went outside this morning to
drive to work, and it was gone.
What are you driving at?
Officer: Okay, you need to fill out this form. Put down the make and model of the vehicle, the year, and the color. You’ll also need the license plate number. Do you know the vehicle’sVIN number? Make and model and year of a car
License plate number:
VIN number:
Kenji: No, I don’t.
Officer: That’s okay. Just fill it out and we’ll
launch an investigation.
Kenji: What do you think the chances are that I’ll
Officer: That’s hard to say. If it was stolen by some kids who wanted to take a
joyride, they’ll abandon it afterwards and you may get it back in one piece. If it was taken by professional car thieves, that’s a different story. They usually strip the cars of their parts and sell them to chop shops. You may not want your car back after it’s been stripped.
That’s a different story =that’s another story=
strip the cars of their parts:拆卸零件
Kenji: I’ll just have to wish for the best.
Officer: We’ll notify you if we have some news.
Kenji: Thanks. In the meantime, I’d better get used
hoof it: go on foot 步行
After going to a lot of garage sales, I’ve learned a few things about getting what I want at the price I want. Bargaining on price is par for the course at any garage sale. If you don’t want to get ripped off, you’ll try to get the sellers to lower their price. I’m an early bird and I usually get to the sales before other people to get the best items. But to get the best prices, be sure to go back right before the sale ends. Most people are desperate to sell so that they don’t have to store those things again or to lug them to a charity office to give them away. That’s when people are ready to slash their prices. It’s true that there is a lot of junk and knickknacks at garage sales. But one person’s trash is another person’s treasure!
By Vincent from www.englishvincent.com
A Traffic Jam
by Vincent from www.englishvincent.com

Dealing with Unhappy Employees
Asa: I don’t know how we got stuck with reviewing employee complaints. This has got to be the worst job ever!
1) Got stuck with something的意思是“陷于/困于某种不利或者苦难的境地而无法改变”,比如:got stuck with reporting over and over and over again to the headquarter(不得不一遍又一遍地向总部汇报情况)
如果你说got stuck in the traffic jam意思是“路上堵车,无法前进”
4)Has got to be是“一定是,肯定是”
He is very unhappy with his present position。
Samantha: This is important work and somebody has to do it. Come on, let’s get started.
Let’s get started
Asa: I think it’s bad for morale to allow employees to file complaints. We’re all overworked and underpaid, and most of us are burned out.
well-translated, below is my version.
3)overwork
