刚才在拜读Roger Dawson的关于谈判技巧的大作”Ask for More Than You Expect to Get”,
看到这样一句话,What concerns
me is that when you’re involved in a negotiation, you are inadvertently creating
deadlocks, because you don’t have the courage to ask for more than you expect to get. 感觉inadvertently这个词非常面熟,但是一时又想不起具体的意思。这个词我应该碰过不下五次了,一直感觉不亲切也不好记。Inadvertently,in表示否定,相反的意思,不再话下,tently构成副词,亦不必深究,关键是要搞清楚adver的意思。看看了,觉得像advise和advertise,如何和前者组合起来,就是未被告知地,不知情地;如果和后者组织起来,advertise的语源我还记得,是to give attention,那么组合起来就是
没注意地,两个组合的意思看起来差不多啊。。。
于是我查看了inadvertently的语源,觉得最后出来的结果因为和我猜测的差不多。
上面是这样解释的:

The goal is to finish one level per semester. Each level will contain sixteen units, each divided into six lessons (forty-five minutes each). The cost will be 35 yuan per lesson per person and there will be no more than eight students in the class. The total cost per semester will be 3360 yuan, however a 10% discount is possible for students who refer other students for registration. Certain lessons can be arranged for students who miss class, with the intention to catch up on course work.

2.下面发布的是我给他写的第一篇作文预测题的范文,供大家参考。

1:Many languages are dying out today due to the widespread use of English. To what extent do you think the advantages outweigh the disadvantages?
Admittedly, we can name a couple of advantages of the widespread use of English, the world’s most dominant Language ever. For instance, the popularity of English enables us to enter a century characterized by globalization, which is entitled to take credit for the peace and prosperity of the post-world-war 2 era, as every country is increasingly relying on each other due to the economic integration. In addition, the study of English is an important way for people from the less-developed areas to get access to and learn the knowledge and state-of-art technologies from the western world; and as far as an individual is concerned, a high level proficiency in English makes it possible for them to open their eyes, see more of the world, or even get accepted by the English-speaking society.
However, we must come to realize that we also cannot afford the drawbacks brought by a mass language extinction. Tens of thousands of species are endangered; oil is on the brink of exhaustion, storage of clean fresh water is dropping…All of the aforementioned tangible "inconvenient truths" have already attracting attention on a global scale, especially those tree-huggers, who are growingly concerned about the "well-being’ of our only home, as we can tell from our day-to-day life that the said facts are apparently putting all human beings in great peril, but have you any clue that languages are undergoing a global extinction crisis that is in enormously excess of the pace of species extinction, and compared with the consumption of most natural resources, the disappearance of a language is both irreversible and irreplaceable. When a language vanishes, centuries of thinking of the dead language speaker about animals, plants, geology and medicine, farming will probably be lost with it.
Not’s that we are merely discarding the knowledge, discoveries, inventions inherited for centuries, as a matter of fact, the integrity of the vanished language speakers into the English-speaking society is nothing short of an outrageous genocide of these people as an ethics. Moreover, as most of the languages are dying out, we will end up with living in a deadly dull and uninspiring world dominated by English and a couple of other major languages as the world loses its rich diversity. In this regard, we can hardly imagine the world’s human beings as a whole is able to evolve in the direction in favor of us. A world in the absence of diversity and differences would finally come back to haunt us, and bring us back to the primal chaos.
In summary, we shall not blow the importance of English out of proportion. Our incompetence and indifference to the conservation of the diversity of languages would be finally at all human beings’ expense. It’s high time we took preventative measures against the Language extinction on a global basis.
Correction of A Little Piece of Work(一篇短文的修改)
1. 我正在筹划中的培训班的第一个学生April前几天在19楼发了帖子,做了番自我介绍,并要求高手们修改下她的错,她的原帖如下:

Hey,guys,i am april,this is the first time I start a thread on 19 floor, after meeting our big boss——loisama.
in fact,I really want to introduce myself in Chinese,but boss required me to use English as much as I can,so I can only try my best to use the damned poor English.
Anyway,in a word,I hope everybody here can be my friend and have a good time in our 19floor’s big family,that’s all,ths~!ps:if i made some grammar or spelling mistakes,plz point them out,i will correct quickly.
一位仁兄对其自我介绍修改如下:
我本不想掺和,不过这位热心的朋友基本上没有修改对,还犯了更多的错误。不得不站出来再做修正,毕竟April是我的宝贝学生呀。我的修改如下:
谢谢qiqi帮April改错误。是好事,我还是要再改一下。1是qiqi没改对,2是April好像被打击到了,觉得对自己很失望。所以我只能花时间弄下,1是帮April该错误,2是让April恢复下信心。 毕竟大家都犯错,犯这种错误没什么了不起的,起码大家还是很容易看懂你在讲什么的。我也看到下面Rake改的东西,其实比起April的,先不说有多少错误,还是April的让人看着更省力。 我的意思是rake童鞋写的诸如So I’m trying my best with using the english words that i know with my damned poor English.这样的句子让我这个没准备好的爱好写长句着都沮丧了下下,现在都觉得有些怕怕。 总之初学者,鼓励用简明的英语。
下面是我的意见。供大家参考,并欢迎指正。
1.I’m April here. 没有这样的说法。打招呼就是hello, everyone, this is/I’m .加个here是什么用意?
2. This is THE first time.
3. I post on … 就可以了,发帖子的“发”并不是发送到“发”(send),你就说post就行了。而且她的这个是post,加上大家都replies才是thread。
4. after meeting with someone. 其实这里是表示“Loisama见面后”,一般并不需要加with的,说after meeting someone 或者after I met (up)someone就可以了, meet with就变成开会了。 而after meeting with loisama变成了“和loisama的会晤后”。
5.如果是everyone here can be my friend这样的方式,那么应该是用friend,而不是friends。因为everyone 是单数。如果要用复数,则是i can be friends with… be/make friends with是固定句型,而sb be my friend这样的句型是不用复数的。
6.family前面的介词用in。
7语法错误是grammatical error或者mistake。
8.前面既然是复数mistakes,后面就不是it (point it out)。
9 plz point them out后面是逗号,你要加一个so,才语气连贯。
10, if i 或should i 这样条件句后面应该是用any,而不是some。
11. So i tried my best to use my damned poor English. 这里错误比较多。首先,时态上,还是用I will try my best较好,毕竟介绍还在进行。 这里不能用damned, 用damn就可以了。 而且damn poor这样的用法比较没感觉,怪怪的,用awful或者terrible这样的词就可以了。这里April要表达的不是“我尽我所能去用我糟糕的英语”,应该是要表达我要尽量用英语写好这篇东西。用make the best of something更贴切表达了April的意思。
12. 说“就这些了”"就这了”这种,鼓励用“that’s it"。基于原文, 我会这样改正,
